Support Christine Kitoko's Platform - Hands For The Heart

Miss AfriCanada 2012 Queen, Christine Kitoko's platform is to educate and mobilize people on the situation of civil war in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Congo’s situation has become extremely critical, with the occupation of its land by foreign troops and institutions that are looting its natural resources illegally. As a result, civilians are being abused and exploited, with women and children suffering the worst of it all. Below is a video, where Christine uses her talent to act out the real life horror occurring in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Quick Facts

  • According to the UN, 160 women are raped per week in North and South Kivu, mainly by armed men.
  • According to the U.S. State Dept., approximately 1,100 rapes are reported each month, with an average of 36 women and children raped every day.
  • In some areas of eastern Congo, 2 out of 3 women have been victims of some form of sexual violence.
Since becoming Miss AfriCanada 2012 Christine has founded Hands For The Heart, a charity organization that will be focusing on raising awareness and raising funds to help victims in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

This year we accomplished something we have never accomplished before as an organization. We raised $2,078 for Because I Am Girl with the help of our amazing Miss AfriCanada 2012 contestants, friends, family and supporters.
We hope to continue this success into the new year as we begin to prepare for our 15th Anniversary and the Miss AfriCanada 2013 Pageant.

Miss AfriCanada 2012 A Night Of Hope A Night Of Change

"A Night for change, A night for Congo" was an event organized by Miss AfriCanada 2012 Christine Kitoko to raise awareness about gender-based violence in eastern Congo, and to raise funds for Panzi Hopsital in Bukavu. Both goals were accomplished with success on this night. The Miss AfriCanada Organization is very proud of what Christine accomplished and how she educated many on about the violence in Eastern Congo. The event was a huge success and as Christine's first event towards accomplishing her platform she has definitely started off very strong. Look out for more events in the coming year as we continue to "Break The Silence" about gender-based violence in Eastern Congo.

A special thank you to everyone who volunteered and donated their time and energy to help make this event a success.
